The tour director was professional, respectful, organized, knowledgeable, and had a great sense of humor. The accommodations were sometimes a bit different that what I have at home but I could adapt. An example was small size of a couple of the bathrooms in our hotel rooms. I liked that the tour inclusions were diverse including museums, time spent outside in nature, stories and information shared with us during bus transportation between various sites, and some free time to do some shopping, resting, or choosing our own other activities.

Arrangements were well-planned and thought through carefully. Leadership was flexible when flexibility was needed. I enjoyed so many aspects of the trip — the museums, boat trips, national parks, the knowledgeable guides, the thermal pools and city walks. I am a lifelong learner and this trip provided the opportunities I needed to grow. I came home with Covid, which wasn’t a bonus I had hoped for, but it’s a risk of living an active life nowadays. I recovered quickly.

Probably the best vacation trip I've ever had. Iceland is a super place to visit. Our Collette Tour was excellent. Our Tour Manager, Luciana Belviso was super and provided us with on-going information about the area we were traveling through, including information about the history and geology of the area as well. Enjoyed her narrations during our trips very much. Our driver, Arnar was excellent as well. Felt like we were in very good hands with his driving capabilities. Appreciated his insights during the trip, including his tips about the Icelandic language as well. We had a super time. My most memorable experiences were our visits to the glacier in the higher lands and the black diamond beach as well as the area with the tectonic plates division. I think everyone of the areas we visited were not only very beautiful and excellent experiences. Thanks Collette Tours and Luciana and Arnar for a super trip.

I was grateful for our bus driver because she was a native Icelander and could answer questions about life in Iceland. Our tour manager was Italian and had only been in the country 1 1/2 years. I would have valued being offered a map or a phone app right at the start that helped identify where we were. Names were very confusing. I realize I am a map person but the names are long and difficult to pronounce. The bus driver was able to answer questions about family life, education, religion etc. She converted wind speeds from Celsius to Fahrenheit for us one afternoon when we were confined to the hotel due to high winds. Weather is unpredictable. Can you have a short program or something when weather changes tour destination plans? Destinations are far apart and it is hard to pivot to something else. Hotels were fine. I appreciated being downtown in Reykjavik for ease in walking and shopping.

The poor airline performance (cancelled flight, not accommodations and having to spend the night in the airport, seats in next flight were not together, lost luggage upon arrival) colored the tour and caused a loss in a day on the tour. The first two of the three hotels were good. The third was poor and had food to match.

The tour manager had a strong accent and spoke to fast. It hard to understand when both happen. She didn't always speak loud enough. Erik (not sure of his full name) did the Reykjavik city tour was great. Not such a strong accent, spoke loudly and was very knowledgeable. I would give the city tour a 5+.

Well organized, very nice places to stay, good food, visited many of Iceland's iconic high spots. Favorites: glacial lagoon, Blue Lagoon, nature cruise & sea food tasting & seeing Puffins, Fridheimar tomato farm, Seljalandsfoss & other waterfalls, Strokkur geyser, Skogar Museum, Reykjavik's famous hot dogs, the black sand beach was #1 expectation for me, unfortunately the weather was terrible when we were there.

Collette kept us up to date before the tour and our guides were great, especially our main tour guide, Asgeir. Holding such a large group together is no easy task, and Asgeir managed to keep us organized and entertained throughout the tour. History, folklore, jokes were all delivered constantly and with genuine interest in the welfare of our group. We couldn't have been in better hands. Our driver kept us safe, even on some "exciting" sections of road. Even a flat tire during one of our day trips was handled with a minor blip in the day's schedule. Asgeir even managed a spectacular Northern Lights display to top off the trip. We would definitely use Collette again and recommend to others.

Our tour manager, Greg Hall, matters greatly in our experience. Prior to the tour, he introduced himself and sent lots of very helpful information to prepare travelers for the adventure. He is very well organized, knowledgeable, good-natured and energetic. During the tour, his informational handouts were excellent. The itinerary was well-planned for varied physical abilities. The excursions were varied, interesting, educational as well as excellent choices for experiencing the natural wonders in Iceland.

Wonderful Iceland tour; all arrangements were taken care of.

Our local guide in Iceland was excellent. Very knowledgeable, patient with our large tour group of seniors, precise with instructions, and personable. The local bus driver transported us safely and efficiently to where we needed to be. The tour itself was a nice mix of sightseeing, education, and local entrepreneurs. The only complaint I have is the cost of airfare upgrade to business class. The price charged is at least twice what business class actually costs! For this trip, we bought our own refundable business class airfare for $2,000/person; Collette wanted $2,999/person just for the upgrade, in addition to the economy airfare included in the tour package. That is outrageous.

A very enjoyable tour of Iceland

Your leader, Greg Hall, really made the tour pleasurable! He gave us printed, color handouts every morning on the bus, with instructions for our trip, descriptions of what we were going to see, including maps and pictures where necessary. He even had plastic bags to give us so each could take home a sample of black sand from the beach.

Really 41/2 Stars. Most memorable was the Lava Centre in Hvolsvollur, though the Frioheimar Greenhouses, lunch & Horse Show was a close second, followed by the Efstidalur Dairy Farm, where Grennel(sp?) was the best local speaker that you provided. The 3 dinner buffets at Katla were two to many and the geothermal power plant could have been much better.

A fabulous tour of Iceland

Our tour guide, Antonija, was the best. She did a wonderful job of teaching us about the the unique culture/history & geography of Iceland. She really made the tour. We enjoyed the itinerary very much. The sites and tours were beautiful and interesting. The highlights were the waterfalls, lava beaches and icebergs. We also took a boat ride through some islands and ate fresh scallops right off of the ocean floor. The greenhouse and diary tours were delightful. I also enjoyed the folk museum and thatch-roofed homes. The bus was extremely comfortable. It was relaxing to veg out and sleep on the bus between sites, taking in the gorgeous scenery. Everything was very well planned and Collette handled all of the details. The only negative, two of the 3 hotels had TINY bathrooms and showers. The shower water sprayed all over the bathroom....they were a bit larger than coffin sized. BUT they were in small towns near the national parks, so options were limited. Overall it was a fabulous experience.

on the plus side: The lodging and the meals were top notch. The tour guide and driver were excellent. The issues we had: Two of the lodgings were so remote that we were stuck in the evening at the lodging with nothing to do. We seemed to be crossing paths and wasting time on the road rather than going in a direct route and changing lodging. Too much time was spent in the lava museum (could eliminate) and the folk museum. Too much time in the bus not enough on our feet in the great outdoors. The Collette representative who met with our group prior to the trip highly suggested crampons for the ice - we purchased two pair - a waste of 70 bucks a pop and about 1 pound of our 50 pound maximum.

The most memorable experiences were visiting the waterfalls with the rainbows and the boat cruise where the crew dragged the bottom of the sea and provided us with fresh scallops raw on the half shell - the whale watch boat was equally memorable for all the wrong reasons - too many people to have any visibility of the whales

The tour guide was very good. The only negative was while speaking on the bus microphone her voice often was muffled. I probably should have said something but I did not thinking she would hear from other people. It was a great trip and I will highly recommend to others.

Our guide Cinthya was wonderful, friendly, very informative, helpful and lots of fun. Iceland was amazing, the volcanoes, lava fields, glaciers and beautiful waterfalls made for spectacular scenery. The tours of the Lava Centre, Thermal Plant, Dairy Farm, Greenland Shark Museum, Folk Museum and Icelandic Horse Display were very interesting and informative. The Blue Lagoon was a relaxing end to our vacation. I have lots of beautiful pictures of an amazing vacation.

It is hard to pick just one memorable experience, walking behind one of the waterfalls was one, sailing amongst the icebergs in Glacier Bay and soaking in the Blue Lagoon were others.

I’m. It sure if some of my objections were the fault it the travel agent, but here are my issues. There was no correspondence from collette prior to the trip. My friend who was going told me to log onto the website for itenery and other info. I discovered valuable info that I would not have known. During the trip, a daily sheet with rough times for meals and breaks during the day is extremely helpful. This was our first collette tour and the only tour company not to provide this. Other than those two issues collette did a good job

We saw amazing things , and then some off the beaten path , like the tomato farm and shark curing operation that added much. My favorite was the black sand beach with the icebergs.

Iceland, the new travel destination

While Iceland Air left something to be desired, the tour after landing was fantastic. The local tour manager was fantastic with a wealth of knowledge only a native could relay. The scenery was unlike anything most people have experienced. The food consisting of seafood and lamb was top notch. Gull and Viking beer was good , too. One of the few trips we were on was sorry to see it come to an end..

Very few people have seen a volcano created landscape. From the moss covered lava fields to the glacier created iceberg lagoon and even a whale sighting boat ride the Gullfos waterfall was spectacular. Glacier fed waterfall was a thing of nature at its finest.

Madeleine, Our tour guide was Sooo wonderful in every aspect. On the last day everyone including her went to the Blue lagoon but my husband did not bring a swimsuits we went whale watching. When I got home Maddy sent us a video of us on the whale watch!! HOW thoughtful! she was not with us, but she arranged that for us!!!! This is why we LOVE Collette!!!!!

Iceland Fire&Ice With Collette.

Amazing trip to Iceland -our Collette leader - Madeline ,was terrific. We have traveled with Collette several times and have never been disappointed. Every detail from arrival to departure was perfect. Our group was warm and friendly, the hotels were wonderful. Could not ask for a better experience.

Fantastic fun trip.

Kopi Cuba was our tour manager and he did an excellent job of giving enough information about each area and made it interesting. Loved everything about the trip. There was also a good amount of free time to just explore Reykjavik on our own. It was also great to spend the first 2 nights in the same hotel and then come back and spend the last night in the same hotel in Reykjavik.

Canyon Country, Poland, Iceland and next up...Scotland

Have taken three trips through Collette Travel and just registered for another. Collette Travel allows you to see the best a location has to offer with plenty of time to explore on you own. The tour guides are informative and personable.

Rainbows and waterfalls everyday; lava tubes and black sand beaches and especially the Northern Lights, which in September are a rare occurrence. But then we finished our tour with a swim in a hot springs lagoon. If it’s not on your bucket list, it should be.

Iceland melds civilization and outer edges of nature.

Our guides, local or Chuck, were very informative and helpful. The scenery was great, weather was good for Sept., meals were tasty, our bus driver was friendly, and lodging was good and in interesting locations. Finally, we saw September gray wisps of the Northern Lights.

Multiple glaciers, boating with icebergs, volcanic caldera and landscapes, a geyser, black sand beaches on the Northern Atlantic, and even a 5 acre tomato greenhouse are not normal in my local. There were too many favorites to choose one.

Difficult customer service assistance

Customer service was slow and questions were often answered incorrectly. It was very difficult to get the services needed as the trip was being set up.

Tour was OK but of all 6 Collette tours taken this rates last.

Better arrival information should have been provided. Our bags were packed for airline travel and our wet weather and coats were in them. The bags were separated from us and the tour started with a walking tour before we had them. Also the van to the hotel could not get closer than 3 blocks and it was raining and very windy so the walk was most uncomfortable. More info about this would have prepared us for the arrival problems. The rest of the tour was very good as we had the clothing needed for poor weather.

We chose this tour as it seemed to include a nice balance of outdoor physical activities, history and culture, and unique experiences. We were so right...the pacing of the activities was also good. No long hours spent on the coach in necessary transit from one location to the next...instead such transits were built around activities on the way from place to place. Also enjoyed the opportunity to spend more than one night in the same hotel... The tour included much more than we expected, including a chance to "bond" with our fellow travelers...the smaller group was great.

Even though we were not on the Northern Lights tour, she checked to see if there was a chance that we might see them and we did. We considered doing this trip on our own compared to doing it with Collette. When I priced it, it was pretty close in price one way or the other. We decided to go with Collette because the reviews we read were very good and it made sense to go with a tour company that would select, schedule, manage and guide us all the way for what we considered to be a good price. We got all of that with very high quality. Especially the tour guide, Jan, who was incredibly professional, knowledgeable and enjoyable. Bravo Collette, we’ll done!

Great tour!

This is our 1st collete tour. It was outstanding. The reason we switch tour companies was because as we age we want to have a little more perks. The booking agent told us our luggage would be cared for from the airport until we are back to airport. We had to assist with that the 1st day. We were told by group members that they had never had that happen in any other tours. At the hotel in Reykjavik they required us to wait for 2 hours to check in then we had to fill out full paperwork-name, address, phone number, passport number etc. It really bogged the tour down from leaving that same day from tour. Especially when Collete had that info. The tour guide should not have had to worry about that or us. Also we recommended a double bed when possible- that was not taken note of but our tour guide went above and beyond to assist with that. We are taking Australia tour in February, we hope our luggage is cared for and bed accommodations addressed. We also asked for seats by each other on the flight. That occurred all but one. Our tour guide Jan was fabulous!

Loved the waterfalls, visit to the tomato farm with horses. Loved the little stops we made for picture moments. There was so much variety and that was perfect. We liked visiting with the farmers and fisherman. Seeing their life first hand. The hotels were just fantastic! A little country and a little taste of urban. Wished we could have had couple more days there to head more around the north part of island.

The sites were terrific. The Grand Hotel was lovely as was the Katla. Hotel Borganes was awful. Room vey small and bathroom was not comfortable . I would not recommend that particular lodging.

You do a great job getting tourists to events that show off the cultures that are being visited. Excellent transport and accommodations are very comfortable.

One problem is the inclusion of mobility challenged participants on a tour that requires mobility and balance. Makes it difficult for your manager and those who can move without assistance. I think its a curse of the industry.

Beautiful, but way too expensive.

I had problems registering my CPAP with Iceland Air. After calling them and waiting on the line twice, both for long times, I called Collette and was told by the person who answered that she checked with her supervisor and "it was not her job", so I would just have to call back the airline and wait. Similar to our England trip, you tried to jam too many things in to each day. You should interact with Iceland Tourism regarding their pricing. They are gouging tourists. My bowl of soup for the equivalent of $29.70 Can. which they increased to $31.05 after I complained will keep many of my friends from going there.

Hotel accommodations were very good. Our tour director was a very nice young man, but apparently had been placed in a position of disadvantage by Collette. He had arrived in Iceland the day before the tour was to begin and he took the Golden Circle Tour to become somewhat familiar with Iceland. As a result he struggled with the route and provided little information about Iceland as we traveled by coach. Our previous travels with Collette were very good.

Our tour guide always got us to the right place on time. He was very courteous and polite and tried to be helpful. There was no one from Collette at the airport when we arrived. Our tour guide had never been in Iceland before, making him very inexperienced with the country. Why wasn't he allowed to travel just once with someone who had experience in Iceland, before he was expected to lead a tour??

surreal, other worldly

In particular, the tour guide, Geoffrey Harrison, was outstanding. The hotels, tour bus driver & ICELAND experience were all excellent. ICELAND truly is other worldly, glad I decided to spend the $$ and explore with Collette. I was not as impressed at times with some of the contacts made stateside but the experience overall was excellent.

Great trip to Iceland

The tour was well planned and we were always kept busy. Geoff the tour manager was there to meet us at the airport upon arrival, making it a smooth transition into the tour. He had an excellent knowledge of the history of Iceland and was very pleasant with a great sense of humor. I enjoyed the places Collette choose for us to visit and the accommodations were great. I totally enjoyed my trip to Iceland.

I liked the published booklet with everything there-flights, hotel, itinerary, helpful tips... Our tour manager emailed us with info before we left home which was such an addition to our trip. Love the pick up and return home sedan service-very prompt, efficient and friendly.

Yes I recommend them and will travel with them again. The actual Iceland part of the trip was wonderful and our tour director was great! My only complaint was with Delta Airlines. We could only get to and from Iceland on Delta and it required 5 stops at 5 different airports! Delta was on time with no cancellations or delays, they did not loose our luggage, just 5 stops to get to Iceland was hard on me!

Their Web site was good and warned us of the weather. I followed their recommendations in cloths and was very happy I did. We had lots of rain and strong winds and so happy we took appropriate cloths, water proof rain pants and heavy coat! Diamond Beach was my favorite experience, gorgeous place!

Collette was very easy to deal with and provided a great experience. I would definitely recommend them and use them again. This is my second tour with Collette.

Except for the wind and rain and cold, the tour was well organized and lots of fun. The Blue Lagoon was my favorite experience although the iceberg open boat was the most memorable. It took 3 days for my clothes to dry out!!

Visiting Iceland was a once in a lifetime experience! The scenery was stunning, people were friendly, and almost everyone spoke English. Each day outdid the previous one! The boat ride on the glacial Lagoon was fantastic. A visit to the Blue Lagoon is a must!

At one point, months before departure, I was called and told the tour was overbooked. The call was a mistake, and was very upsetting.

Reyjavik hotel was awful: buffet breakfast stingy, last night hotel room was substandard, inability to drive coach to entrance a major inconvenience. Glacier lagoon cruise was a highlight.

Would recommend this trip to first time visitors to Iceland.

Trip was well organized. Activities were broad ranged and suitable for tour group. Tour Manager was knowledgeable, anticipated traveler's needs and provided useful information so that everyone was able to use stops optimally and keep the tour on schedule. Information was clear and precise so everyone understood what's coming up next. Tour bus was clean and driver was courteous and proficient in his driving. Included meals were of high quality and represented local flavor. Hotel quality was as expected. Overall, the tour met my expectations.

The tour covered enough points of interest to fill up each day without rushing through each stop giving enough time to appreciate each point of interest. Enough time was provided at the end of each day to enjoy a meal and interact with other tour members.

Our tour guide was superb! (Chuck Tracy) Hotel in Reyjkevik, please consider changing. The Hilton is quite nice! Breakfast selection better than the Plaza CentreHotel. The tour could be reworked. For the price that we paid it was not totally what we bargained for.

Our tour manager... was fabulous....he "made" the tour! The tour was well organized and we kept on schedule to get to see and do everything. Our bus driver was also very knowledgeable and an extremely good driver. I have traveled with several different tour companies and found Collette to be comparable, except for communicating well with me before the tour. I felt the tour docs were lacking in specific info and ended up having to call Collette a few times. The lack of preliminary info took away some of the anticipation that is important for a tour.

The tour was wonderful. WE saw many amazing sights and were pleased with the accommodations and itinerary. For the trip to the peninsula, Collette had not planned well for lunch en route. This resulted in a rather expensive meal of hot soup and bread. Perhaps, plan for a box lunch from Reyvkavik and let tour members know to plan for snacks on their own.

A good tour that delivered on what was offered. The tour group of 44 was too many for me. The group was lovely and everybody was on time etc, but won't ever do a trip with this many again. Also if you want to include people from outside North America make some adjustments, eg we use metric and all the Imperial examples were useless. Knowing there were Australians on the trip Australia was mentioned, but with no knowledge of us, eg you tour manager said he had guided in Australia, but knew nothing about us major issue didn't know our National Day, talked about banks withstanding the GFC but didn't know why. Yes I understand I was travelling with a foreign group, but have done so on many occasions where nationality wasn't an issue. Would have expected a little homework or not mention Australia at all, which has happened lots of time and easier to accept. My feedback in Australia is yes you want us to tour but accept we are not North Americans and need to be accept we are different. Must stay Jeff did make good changes with the weather. Really disappointed with Kayla hotel, desperately needs refurbishment. Won't be hurrying back to Collette. I travel internationally a couple of times each year, plus lots in Australia, NZ and Asia. All this aside did enjoy the trip. Still waiting for refund on cruise cancellec

Great Tour, Great Guide and Great Tour Company

Our tour guide was a great guide and our visit to Iceland included everything that we wanted to see. The service was excellent and we felt the tour was planned very well. We would very much recommend Collette Tours.

We loved the tour and the comprehensive introduction to Iceland. The Golden Circle, the Cod fishing and the Icelandic horses were excellent. The Blue Lagoon was not to be missed!

Our tour guide was very good. However she had to pick up from the airport and no one was available at the hotel where we were taken regarding the tour until she returned about 1 1/2 hours later. There was only 1 optional experience and it was our least favourite activity.

Won't Use Collette Again!

My wife got sick and had to be hospitalized, so we had to drop from the tour. Collette disappeared at that point, no help whatsoever. The travel insurance company was useless. Couldn't help make plane reservations to get home, had to ask 3 times if they could call and make a doctor appointment for when I got home. Iceland hospitals do not have telephones that are easy to access so it was difficult to communicate with anyone. We were staying in a $300/ night room but the trip insurance only covers $100/night. So in dealing with this we had to find a new hotel on our own. Would have been great to have received a visit from a collette person to give advice on dealing with things like this.

Iceland was great, Collette wasn't

The tour itself was good, the leader and bus driver excellent. But I felt the pricing was deceptive (a mandatory in country flight that you charged an extra 250 dollars for? Your trip extension was only the hotel room, and it was $300 a night for a room that would have cost $225 purchased directly from the hotel, less than that on the internet? Because I accepted your trip extension, I had to pay for transport to the airport- you wanted $80 for it, I was able to get a $17 transport with pick up at the hotel? And this is the first bus trip I have been on that didn't even offer water on the bus!) Your customer service response to my complaints before I left was "well, that's our policy" I will never do a Collette trip again!
